Frequently Asked Questions
How are you paid? Our fees are primarily based on a percentage of assets we manage for you. This structure helps ensure we are both on the same side of the table – as your portfolio increases, so does the amount of our compensation. If the value of your portfolio decreases, so does our compensation. Do you replace my CPA?
No. If you have a relationship with a CPA you are already pleased with, we will proactively work alongside that person. If you are looking to establish a new relationship, we will introduce you to a CPA who specializes in situations similar to yours. Do you replace my attorney?
No. Much like the situation with your CPA, we welcome your existing relationships with your legal advisors, or, should you choose, we can introduce you to someone appropriate for your particular needs. Where are my assets held?
Sanctuary does not hold your assets. Your assets are held by an independent third-party custodian. This helps to provide an additional system of checks and balances. You will have 24/7 online access to your accounts and will receive statements from that third-party custodian. How often are my plans and investments reviewed?
Many advisors have hundreds, if not thousands, of clients, which logistically leaves very little time for each client. Because we limit the number of clients per advisor to approximately 40, your plans and investments will be reviewed far more frequently than what you’re probably used to. Who makes my investment decisions?
You do. We will make recommendations and provide you with enough information to make wise choices, but ultimately you have the final say in every investment decision. We don’t believe investment decisions should be a surprise, so we will not act without your authorization. How often will we meet?
You decide what works best for you. Some of our clients prefer shorter meetings several times a year; others prefer longer meetings fewer times per year. We accommodate your preferences and are available by phone or email. How often will you contact me and how?
We understand that each of our clients is unique and each person has a preferred method of contact. During our initial meeting, we work with you to determine how you prefer to be contacted and how often. We strive to be consistent and meaningful in our client communications. Who will be handling my account?
Each client has a key contact person to work with on a consistent basis. However, because of our team approach, any of our advisors can answer questions or assist you with your account. What safeguards do you have in place to protect my money?
Some of the recent problems we have seen have been due to “investment people” having discretion over client accounts, clients buying from unlicensed individuals, or clients making investment payments directly to an individual. Sanctuary has made a clear separation of our clients’ money from our firm by using outside holding companies such as Charles Schwab and other unrelated companies. Our client accounts are all nondiscretionary, meaning that investment changes are made only after consulting with you. Finally, all our advisors are licensed and registered and are investment advisor affiliates with Sanctuary Wealth Management, a registered investment advisory firm.
